Donkey Business /// By: Vincent Inoncillo

It is our goal to bring you the most current and interesting topics in the jiu-jitsu community. The most talked about topic over the last 24 hours is the ban of the "donkey guard" in an upcoming Gracie tournament. The donkey guard is made famous by American jiu-jitsu hero, Jeff Glover. Jeff is black belt under Ricardo "Franjinha" Miller of Paragon Jiu-Jitsu. He has notable wins over Robson Moura and Caio Terra and is a 27-time Grapplers Quest champion, just to name a few of his achievements.

According to the Gracie tournament rulebook, the donkey guard is not practical in a street fight, therefore cannot be utilized in their jiu-jitsu tournament. There have been mixed feelings on the internet about the donkey guard being removed from Gracie tournaments after Glover pointed it out in a recent Facebook post. Some comments support Jeff and some don't. There's no thoughts or comments that would mean more at this point other than Jeff Glover's. I spoke with Jeff briefly last night and asked him about his thoughts on the donkey guard ban. Jeff simply said, "We'll it's lame... donkey is the most useful guard in jiu-jitsu." At the same time Jeff noted he respects Gracie tournament's decision for the ban.

While other tournaments out there are formatted differently from techniques allowed, no advantages to no time limit, it seems there's a style for everyone. Some may adapt to all or may just prefer one. Alldaybjj.com readers, what are your thoughts?
